Day 1 – 01.12.2008

Bhushan makes light of Viral's Challenge

Seasoned campaigner Bhushan Shahade from Dadar Club, playing with plus 45 handicap, did not have to sweat much while scoring over Viral Dedhia, who had the advantage of 15 points, 116-89, 114-81 to advance into the second round of the Rosy Blue sponsored Hindu Gymkhana -Wilson Jones All India Open Handicap snooker/billiards tournament, hosted by P. J. Hindu Gymkhana here on Monday.

Another seasoned stalwart Keku Nicholson, of CCI, however, found the going quite tough against youngster Saumil Karkera. He dropped the first frame but then rallied to claim the next two to emerge 100-131, 111-97, 108-83 winner. Catholic Gymkhana’s Harold Sylvester, too, started rather erratically before he tightened his game to overcome hosts; Dharmesh Parikh 81-100, 110-71, 107-82.

Siddharth Sogani, who was placed at plus 55 handicap, did encounter some anxious moments against Rohinton Daruwala of Dadar Parsee, with plus 40 handicap, before Siddharth was through with a 99-88, 120-93 win to join Bhushan in the next round.

Earlier, while inaugurating the tournament, a tear trickled from Geoffrey's eyes as he played a shot with his father, the late Wilson Jones’s cue. He appreciated the hosts for remembering his father’s achievements.
