Devendra, Yasin romp home in style

Mumbai:  Devendra Joshi, finalist of recently held World Billiards championships at Bangalore, did not waste much of his time while romping through his billiards and snooker ties in the Rosy Blue sponsored Hindu Gymkhana-Wilson Jones All India Open handicap Snooker and Billiards  championships, hosted by P.J.Hindu Gymkhana here on Wednesday.

Joshi, on plus 15 to his rival Upendra Luke’s plus 60 in snooker, surprisingly could not get going in the opening frame and lost the first frame. But then it was like warming up exercise for him. Once he got going, there was no stopping him, clinching the tie at 21-88, 105-69, 102-93.

Later in billiards, Joshi notched up a  centrury break to  rout Siddharth Khemani 200-165.

Former Asian snooker champion, Yasin Merchant was on scratch to his rival Abhav Haralkar’s plus 55. But the advantage that Haralkar had hardly made any difference to Yasin, who with breaks of 90 in the first frame and 42 in the second was through with 124-56, 98-63 win.

Islam Gymkhana’s junior Hasam Badami has been on a roll this season and today, he excelled both in snooker and billiards ties. In snooker, he downed seasoned Kuku Nicholson 99-88, 105-70 and in billiards, he got the better of Sanju Kothari 200-175.

Delhite Vaibhav Sharma, the last year’s snooker finalist in this tournament, dropped a frame before  beating K. Talib 111-86, 59-121, 114-71.
