Balsara playing with a handicap of plus 10, showed good potting skills and with a break of 73 in the fourth frame romped to a 89-48, 62-54, 11-89, 90(73)-44, 82-49 win. He will clash with clash with Lucky Vatnani of Hyderabad who overcame twice Asian champion Yasin Merchant 4-3 in a close second semi-final.

ASHOK SHANDILYA suffered defeat at the hands of Vishal Gelani in the third round of the Silk India Naturals-sponsored All-India PJ Hindu GymkhanaWilson Jones Open Handicap Snooker Tournament on Monday.

Shandilya playing with a handicap of plus 10, paid a heavy price for missing a simple black in the third and deciding frame against Vishal Gelani (+55). Gelani seized the opportunity to sink the black and clinch a 71-85, 92-22, 89-86 victory. On a dramatic day of upsets, Siddharth Parikh and Heena Khandelwal also joined Shandilya on the sidelines.

Meenal playing with an handicap of plus 40, the same as Melwyn, showed better consistency and romped to a 96-89, 88-70 win and a passage to the third round.

In contrast, the competition's elite cueists lived up to their reputations as double Asian Games gold medalist Ashok Shandilya and junior national champion Aditya Mehta advanced to the third round without a fuss.

Samir Kariya (+50) of Dadar Club caused the only upset of the day when he ousted M Bhogle (+45) 98-92, 104-97 in another keen second round match.

FANCIED CUEIST, Marzdi Kalyaniwala and Nikhil Ootam, both playing with an identical handicap of plus 20, showed their class as they sidelined their respective opponents in straight frames in their second round matches of the Silk India Naturals-sponsored All India P J Hindu Gymkhana-Wilson Jones Open Handicap Snooker Tournament 2005, at the gymkhana's billiards hall on Wednesday.

Kalyaniwala potting fluently outclassed SB Pandya 96-76, 97-59 while Nikhil Ootam quelled the challenge of Sanjeev Kothari (+60) by posting a 88-79, 89-81 win to advance to the third round.

Another seasoned campaigner, V Subramaniam (+40) encountered a stiff resistance from James Moon (+55) before pulling through in three frames at 75-105, 115-83, 107-57 in another second round match.

Meanwhile, Chandra Pujari (+60) is turning out to be a giant killer in the competition when he rallied to stun another formidable cueist Zubin Vajifdar (+45) by a 2-1 frame margin in an absorbing second round tie. Pujari, who had shocked former Maharashtra No. 4 Hitesh Kotwani in the opening round, came up with another impressive performance to fashion a surprise 108-77, 113-120, 121-118 victory.

KAIZAD FITTER recovered strongly to overcome his opponent playing with a higher handicap to advance to the third round of the Silk India Naturals sponsored All India P J Hindu Gymkhana-Wilson Jones Open Handicap Snooker Tournament 2005, at the Hindu Gymkhana's billiards hall on Tuesday.

Fitter playing with a lower handicap of plus 35 against Gaurav Prabhu, plus 55, found the going tough and lost the opening frame before he came back to win a close second to level the scores.

In the decider, Fitter potted steadily and did not give his rival much of a chance as he went on to pocket the frame and clinch a 89-98, 96-93, 106-66 victory.

MELWYN MASCARENHAS (+40) made light of his lower handicap to brush aside the challenge from Darayes Shroff (+60), winning their first round match in the Silk India Naturals-sponsored All India P J Hindu Gymkhana-Wilson Jones Open Handicap Snooker Tournament 2005.

Potting with consistency, Mascarenhas was always in control of the proceedings. He romped to a 103-87, 113-84 victory at the P J Hindu Gymkhana's billiards hall, on Friday.

Viresh Prabhu (+40) also won his first round match against Karan Agarwal (+60) by the shortest route. Prabhu prevailed at 104-61, 122-72.

In another close first round encounter, Chandra Pujari (+60) rallied to put it across Hitesh Kotwani (+40) by two frames to one.

Pujari dropped the opening frame but came back strongly to pocket the subsequent two frames to clinch a 91-100, 104-60, 127-104 victory.

Jadhav, a billiards marker at Hindu Gym, after losing the opening frame tamely, showed great fighting qualities as he bounced back to win the next two frames to clinch a 2-1 win in a tense encounter at the Hindu Gym billiards hall on Wednesday. The frames scores read 61-100, 103-101, and 114-91 in favour of Jadhav.

Fancied Adnani (+40) squandered the advantage of winning the opening frame as he lost the next two frames to Punit Kasat (+60). Kasat romped to an 89-104, 125-111, 105-80 win. In other matches, Pravin Pandya overcame Anup Takle 2-1 while Dashrut Sable tamed Lyndon Braganza 2-0.
